Vacuum forming is a thermoforming technique that heats a plastic sheet and pulls it with vacuum pressure to form precisely over a mould. The result is packaging locked tightly to your product's contours—angled corners, deep curves, and protrusions alike—so the product cannot shift, scratch, or lose its precise presentation.

What Is Vacuum Forming?

Vacuum forming works like a fitted "second skin" for your product: a sheet of rigid PVC film is heated until pliable at a controlled temperature, draped over a mould, and air is drawn out so the plastic clings perfectly to the tool. After cooling, the shape is stabilised and excess material is trimmed to the design.

This method excels with complex product shapes that ordinary box packaging cannot secure. Because the mould determines the final precision, vacuum forming quality depends on expert tool-making and strict process control.

Vacuum Forming Step by Step

  1. Heating the sheet – rigid PVC film is heated until pliable at a controlled temperature.
  2. Vacuum forming – the sheet is placed over the mould; air is drawn out so the plastic adheres perfectly to the tool.
  3. Cooling – the shape is stabilised so it does not shrink or warp afterwards.
  4. Trimming & finishing – excess material is cut to the design; the result is ready to use or assemble with cartons.
